What's Scarier Than Scary? Blockbuster Reveals Top Terrifying Movies You Won't Find in the Horror Section This Halloween

DALLAS, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Scary doesn't always mean ghosts, monsters and vampires, a survey from Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE: BBI, BBI.B) reveals just in time for Halloween. "The 10 Most Terrifying Non-Horror Movies," created based on feedback from movie lovers, shows that sharks, an unhinged fan or a crazy eccentric can be just as chilling. The non-traditional Halloween movie list provides alternatives for film picks or even costume ideas this October 31.

"Jaws" leads the list, with close to one out of three respondents (29 percent) naming the movie starring a menacing great white shark as the scariest. Some unexpected frighteners on the list include a mom ("Mommie Dearest"), a family film ("Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"), a nurse ("Misery") and a camping trip ("Deliverance").

The Top 10 Most Terrifying Non-Horror Movies, according to the survey by Blockbuster Inc., are:

    1. Jaws
    2. Misery
    3. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
    4. Deliverance
    5. A Clockwork Orange
    6. Fatal Attraction
    7. No Country For Old Men
    8. Requiem for a Dream
    9. Mommie Dearest

    10. Dead Calm
